The events of this past week revealed that we are a nation that is torn, bleeding, and literally at war with one another. Emotions have ran wild, hot heads have rued the day instead of warm hearts, racial prejudices on BOTH sides have blinded folks to the light of the gospel all in the name of righteous indignation, all to the point of murderous violence. Luke tells in the 9th Chpt of his Gospel an event from the life of Jesus in which Jesus' own disciples let emotions run wild, hot heads win out over warm hearts, racial prejudices to blind to the point of threatened violence. Man does it speak VOLUMES to us & to our nation! Jesus is here educating his would-be followers (them, 1st century; us, 21st century) on the demands of the road - lessons on what it takes to effectively follow Jesus. They are fiercely radical, scary almost. We must resist the temptation to tame them, to make them more palatable, to say what WE want and not what the Savior says! As we as a nation look to travel the road now set before us, whether black, white, cop or citizen, we desperately need to learn "The Demands of the Road" from the life of the greatest example of love, grace & forgiveness there ever was - Jesus Christ.

Love is a wonderful thing, VERY important! Yet our perspective is all jacked up! We confuse love with lust & infatuation; we love everything from chocolate chip cookies & football to our kids, our spouses and our God. We think the ultimate sacrifice for love in our marriages is cheering for their favorite team or the larger 1/2 of a split dessert! Is there any hope for us hopeless cases?! YES! Put on the Purple Sunglasses of God's Word and see things from HIS perspective. In SOS 8:5-14 we find 12 different characteristics of the "ahava" love God cultivates between a man and a woman in the Covenant of marriage. If we want God to cultivate THAT love in our marriages, we need to plant 12 P's (peas) in the vineyard of our marriages!! Wanna find out those 12 "P's"?!?! Don't you LOVE the honesty of the Bible?! Find it refreshing?! Solomon & Shulammite = wedding is over, consummate their marriage, then BOOM...1st fight! Bottom line = conflict WILL be a part of your marriage, even the healthiest, most romantic, most passionate ones!! Ed Young in "The 10 Commandments of Marriage" says the 4th is "Thou Shalt Make Conflict Thy Ally." And so it's not whether we WILL have conflict but HOW we will deal with it! As we put on Track 8 of Love Songs, listen to the ABCDE's of "Fighting Fair" that you might make conflict in your marriages your ally not your enemy!!!

In her article "What They Didn't Teach You About Sex In Sunday School," Peggy Fletcher Stack writes, "Many people assume the Bible has just one message about sex: Don't do it." Anyone who says that obviously has not read the Bible, especially SOS Chpt. 4!!! God, in His Word, has much to say about sex and much of it is good! God is PRO-SEX if you like - WHEN it is enjoyed HIS way & for HIS glory. And so, what should we think about sex?! Not at all?! Don't do it?! For those of you who are married, do you recall your wedding day?! Mine & Vicky's was great alright (let's just say CAJUN BIRDSEED) - not so... great then but a great story now! But what truly constitutes A Great Wedding?! SOS 3:6-11 tells us.
